Call for Abstracts

We are excited to see the best of your insights into Complex Systems at CCS 2024, to be held at the University of Exeter.
The Conference on Complex Systems brings together researchers studying complexity across a diverse range of fields, from Physics to Economics, Social, Biological and Computer Science among others.
We welcome contributions from a wide range of areas within complex systems. Each submission will be assessed by a member of the programme committee with expertise in a relevant area and notification for authors will be sent by email.
Broad topics
Topics covered by the conference include, but are not limited to:
- Foundations of complex systems, basic sciences, quantum complexity
- Complex networks
- Data science, machine learning and AI in the context of complex systems
- Computation and information processing in complex systems
- Social systems
- Ecological systems
- Cognition, psychology and neuroscience
- Complexity in biology and health sciences
- City science, mobility and transport
- Energy, environment, sustainability, climate and global change
How to submit
Upload requirements
Please prepare a PDF document of 2 pages maximum (see template) In the first page, you must include title, authors and their affiliations, and full abstract of your talk. The second page can only include one figure with caption, and references.
Please use the LaTeX, template linked here or at the bottom of the page. If you are using another editor like Word, please convert to PDF before submission.
Abstracts must be submitted along with author information through the system by the deadline of 12th April. Please indicate your preference for contributed talk, lightning talk or poster. Note that this preference may not be guaranteed.
Ensure uploads are not password protected and are no larger than 5MB in size.
Instructions for authors
Accepted abstracts must be presented by one registered author. This presentation must be in-person.
If no author is registered before the deadline, the contribution will be withdrawn from the programme.
An author cannot present more than one accepted talk, see guidelines in the registration page to ask for more than one presentation.
Submission Types
Please indicate your preference for one of the following presentations:
- Contributed talk: Full length talk in a parallel focused session.
- Lightning talk: Short talk to briefly present a research idea to a wider audience, presented in the plenary session.
- Poster: Posters will be displayed prominently near the refreshment/reception area.

To make the submission process smooth for you, please have the following ready when making the upload to the submission portal:
- Presenting author full name, affiliation, email and contact number (where you can be reached during the conference).
- Coauthor full names, affiliations and email addresses.
- Closest topic(s) (see the Main Topics list) for assigning reviewers and assigning the talk to a session.
- PDF of the abstract.
Once an initial submission is made, it can be edited any time before the submission deadline.
